How I turned my hobby into a 6-figure business
For the first (and perhaps only) time, I'm giving a talk on how I built my tequila education business, and the differences between B2B and B2C content creation.
It's at Creator Economy Expo. A bushel of amazing speakers, AND I'll be doing a live tequila tasting (of course).

The Strategist Is Now the KING
I've been using Magai a lot. It's an elegant interface for ChatGPT and GPT-4, plus a collection of AI-powered image-creation tools.
It's so simple.
And, it includes dozens of pre-built personas, so if you want to learn from a robot standup comedian about how to file a tax return in France, you can do so.
And I did.
It's a real time-saver.
Soon enough, EVERYONE (including all of your competitors) will be fully stocked with generative AI assistants.
We'll all be churning out instantaneous proposals, contracts, ads, emails, speeches, photos, poems, songs, and all the rest.
The most prolific humans like Stephen King, Taylor Swift, and Donald Trump defense attorneys, won't be noteworthy, because volume of work created will no longer be a differentiator.
The era of out-hustling your competitors is over. In the AI era, time and capacity are no longer success limiters.
And the business implication is simple:
When everyone has the same robots, the strategist becomes king.
And THAT'S where you can stand out.
You cannot outwork your competition, but you can still outthink them.
Your creativity.
Your imagination.
Your ability to recognize non-obvious patterns.
Your empathy.
It's important to remember that the "AI" in "Generative AI" stands for "artificial intelligence". Indeed, until the robots become sentient and rise up, they are only as smart as we tell them to be.
Real strategy, rooted in real understanding of customer needs, with a heavy dose of human intuition. That's the new golden ticket.
So as you're thinking about your team, and even your own career, consider what you have and what you'll need.
For so long, we've hired mostly "doers" because winning was about efficiency of execution.
But now, the doing is commoditized.
The thinking? Not yet.
(I'd love to know what you're using generative AI for in your life? Send me a note and let me know. Most interesting answers win tequila)
The Books Report
This new AI era, where the strategist is the king, is a turn. A curveball. An opportunity for a pivot.
And coincidentally, Steve McKee just published a fantastic book about how to capitalize on a changing business environment.
Here's what I wrote on the back cover of TURNS: Where Business is Won and Lost
"What a supremely interesting book. TURNS is a rollicking ride through history and modern times that illustrates why, how, and when to change course in business (and in life). It's a powerful combination of Gladwell-esque narrative mixed with a giant heaping of astute business insights. Bravo!"
It's so good, and has a 4.9+ rating on Amazon!
Jay's Faves
Wow! What a surprisingly delightful film.
Streaming on AppleTV+, Tetris is the incredible true story of the fight for the distribution rights of the world's favorite puzzle-based video game.
Soviet-era political machinations. Double-crosses. Underdog dreamers. This movie has it all.
And actor Taron Egerton is terrific, as always. Watch this one!
